Independent Contractor (IC) Relations Training Program — Dos, Don’ts & Best Practices

Thursday, June 3, 2021 (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

This is a unique and comprehensive 1-hour training program focused on how front-line fleet employees (driver managers and supervisors, dispatchers, safety personnel, etc.) should interact with independent contractors (owner-operators). The program is based on existing federal and state laws, as well as case law, and is designed to provide carrier managers and employees with: 1. background and context on why IC status is important, and how the govt and the courts enforce it; 2. proper terminology to use when communicating orally and in writing with ICs; 3. an explanation and understanding of 5 ‘bright line’ standards carrier employees should follow (gleaned from federal and state law, case law and US DOL opinion letters); 4. approximately 20 common IC-related challenges fleets face, coupled with recommended solutions/best practices; and, 5. additional ways for the company and its front-line workers to fortify its IC model. This virtual training will be presented for SCTA members by well-known transportation and regulatory expert, Dave Osiecki, President of Scopelitis Transportation Consulting LLC.
